A Day in Hongdae

Hey everyone!

So my China pictures are a mess right now! I need to sort through them and organize before I post them. I will post them soon!

Here are a couple pictures from a trick eye museum I went to this past weekend. A friend and I decided we needed to explore a bit more of Seoul! So, we went to an area called Hongdae. It is kinda a hipster place but its got some really cool shop and a nice little market with all homemade trinkets.

Mudfest

Hey everyone!

A little update - I am doing good! I am still really enjoying my job and all the people I'm meeting. Time is going by incredible fast and I'm trying to experience and see it all!

Last month I went to the Boryeong Mudfest. It’s supposed to be to promote a cosmetic mud but it’s really just a big party.
Here are some pictures….

Here are some pictures of foodd.... yumm! Most Korean style restaurants have a grill or wok in the middle of the table and a ridiculous number of side to go with it.

My favourite grill spot!

Korean pizza ... they put anything and everything on their pizza

Renny and I grilling squid .. yumm

Some people that live in my apartment building

I'm sure some of you have heard of the fish that eat the dead skin off your feet (Dr.Fish) ... We thought it would be good idea! It was the most ticklish feeling I have every felt!!!! I could only put my heels or toes - my arches were too sensitive.

This past weekend two teachers from my school took a friend and I out to explore Seoul ...

The beginning...

 Hey all!

I am finally getting a chance to update everyone! I have had a crazy week. After what felt like the longest journey I’ve ever taken, we had to stay in a “love motel” for 3 nights before we could move into our apartments. It was less than comfortable! I am finally all settled into my apartment and starting to feel more relaxed. My apartment is adorable! It is a lot bigger and more comfortable than I expected. The only downfall is that I have to turn my hot water on about 20 minutes before I want to use it and I NEVER remember Haha! Hopefully I will get the hang of it soon! Here are some pictures….

Loft

As for my school, it is about a ten-minute walk from the apartment building. It is on the 4th floor of a seven-story building. There are 10 six-year-old kids in my kindergarten class, which are my mornings and part of the afternoon. They are in second year and know a bit of basic English.  It is definitely going to be a challenge to communicate with them! My later classes are a variety of three different elementary levels; this means they have begun Korean school and come to English school afterwards. I think the elementary will be a bit more fun because the kids can speak decent English but who knows what will happen! Koreans are crazy with their schooling.  A seven-year-old was telling me that she has to wake up at six to study then go to Korean elementary school, go to English school, have violin practice and go to Chinese lesson. After getting home around 10 she must stay up until 12 to study then wake up the next day and do it all again. I could definitely not be a kid in Korea!!

Tomorrow will be my first day teaching … Wish me luck! :)

Korea Bound!

Hello family and friends!!

As most of you know I am heading to Korea to begin a new adventure. I have signed a 12-month contract to teach at an elementary school in Guri, which is a town on the outskirts of Seoul. I decided to start this blog as a way of communicating with all of you, my family and friends, back home.  I will post something every week or couple of weeks to give you all a little update. I want to warn you! I am by no means a good writer or blogger so you guys can consider this my official apology for poor writing, grammar and punctuation. Haha.

I still cannot believe I am about to start a job so far away … and I leave tonight. This whole thing seems very surreal. I am having mixed emotions of excitement and nervousness but I’m confident I will settle in fast and make myself at home. I have all my creature comforts packed (haha Andrew) and I’m ready to go!

Talk to you all soon,

xo Alex

Packing is ALWAYS fun ....
