The beginning...

 Hey all!

I am finally getting a chance to update everyone! I have had a crazy week. After what felt like the longest journey I’ve ever taken, we had to stay in a “love motel” for 3 nights before we could move into our apartments. It was less than comfortable! I am finally all settled into my apartment and starting to feel more relaxed. My apartment is adorable! It is a lot bigger and more comfortable than I expected. The only downfall is that I have to turn my hot water on about 20 minutes before I want to use it and I NEVER remember Haha! Hopefully I will get the hang of it soon! Here are some pictures….

As for my school, it is about a ten-minute walk from the apartment building. It is on the 4th floor of a seven-story building. There are 10 six-year-old kids in my kindergarten class, which are my mornings and part of the afternoon. They are in second year and know a bit of basic English.  It is definitely going to be a challenge to communicate with them! My later classes are a variety of three different elementary levels; this means they have begun Korean school and come to English school afterwards. I think the elementary will be a bit more fun because the kids can speak decent English but who knows what will happen! Koreans are crazy with their schooling.  A seven-year-old was telling me that she has to wake up at six to study then go to Korean elementary school, go to English school, have violin practice and go to Chinese lesson. After getting home around 10 she must stay up until 12 to study then wake up the next day and do it all again. I could definitely not be a kid in Korea!!

Tomorrow will be my first day teaching … Wish me luck! :)

Love the apartment! You even have plants on the window sill. Don't forget to water them. HaHa! The loft reminds me of the house hunting shows we always watch on TV.
Hope you have a great first week at work!

  3. Hi Alex
Glad you set up blog. Great way to stay in touch and hear (and see) how you are doing. We have all the confidence in the world you will do well in SK.
Cute apartment, but don't try to host any big dinner parties at that white table. (almost as nice as Grandma's "pad")
    Cheers, Uncle Sandy.
P.S. - You'll be happy to know that nothing has changed in your "back home" world ... had Grandma and your Mom for dinner tonight and Grandma only told us 6 times that you had to take enough deodorant for an entire year.
